Foot Pain and Dysfunction

The foot is an extremely complex area of the body. It is also an area that has a huge impact on the position and function of the rest of the body.



The anatomy


There are three different sections to the foot; the forefoot, the midfoot and the hindfoot. These areas are made up of bones, ligaments, muscles, tendons and connective tissue, create the complex movements needed for motion and balance.



Conditions

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Plantarfasciatis

  • Tendinopathies

  • Achilles tendon injuries

  • BunyionsPoor foot mechanics or dysfunction contributes to

  • Stress urinary incontinence

  • Hip pain

  • Knee pain

  • Pelvic girdle pain

  • Rib pain and dysfunction

  • Neck pain and dysfunction


Asessment

  • Subjective assessment: We will ask you lots of questions about your feet, about the rest of your body, anypast injuries or surgeries, about what you do each day, your exercise routine and your health in general.

  • Objective assessment of the foot: Assess its motion in various positions, palpate the areas and any specialtests we may need to do.

  • Full body assessment: We will always look at the rest of your body to see if there are any areas that could becontributing to your problem. A common area that is dysfunctional in people with problems in their feet are the ribs and hips.


Treatment may include

  • Connect therapy approach

  • Muscle releases and soft tissue massage to the foot and calf

  • Muscle releases and soft tissue massage. to any other part of the body that is contributing to the problem

  • Individualised exercise program including stretching exercises and strength training.

  • Taping

  • Dry needling
